What is a stump grinder?

Stump grinders come in a variety of shapes and sizes depending on your stump grinding needs. Stump grinders can be as small as the size of a lawn mower, or as big as a bull dozer. The head of a stump grinder is normally a high speed cutting wheel with teeth attached to it. The cutting wheel of the stump grinder is able to be maneuvered vertically and horizontally. A stump is ground by sweeping the stump grinding cutter wheel horizontally across the stump to take a layer off. The stump grinder wheel is then lowered and another layer is ground away until the stump has been finished.

What is left after a stump has been ground?

Once our stump grinding operator has finished grinding the stump, you will be left with a pile of mixed debris. This stump grinding debris will be a mix of dirt and ground up wood chips. Depending on the size of the stump being ground you will left with a very large mess to clean up. Our team is able to clean up this stump debris for an additional cost.

How deep into the ground can the stump grinder go?

Where can the stump grinder NOT reach?

Stump grinders can be maneuvered to reach most stumps, but there are limitations to what our stump grinders can reach.  Our stump grinders need at least a 42" opening between buildings or gate openings to be able to drive up to a stump. You also have to take in consideration how tight a turn the stump grinder may have to make around buildings and landscape features.

Our stump grinders can only grind so close to permanent fixtures as well. If there are rocks, stones, fence posts, concrete, concrete block, etc. then this will limit the stump grinding radius.
